Nature Conservation at the Freiburg TrailRun
The Freiburg TrailRun takes place in the heart of the Black Forest – a valuable natural landscape that we respect and protect.
Our principle: We run here as guests.
Our 10-Point Nature Code
We stay on the trails
The course runs 100 % on existing paths. Off-trail running and shortcuts are not allowed at the Freiburg TrailRun.
No noise in the forest
No music, no loudspeaker systems in the forest and no party atmosphere on the trails – we deliberately keep the Black Forest quiet.
No night or twilight running
Start and finish take place in daylight. There are no night sections, headlamps or artificial lighting in the forest.
Limited number of participants
We focus on small, manageable starting fields instead of mass participation. This reduces impact on nature.
Zero-waste principle
No single-use items in the forest: personal soft flasks, no gel packaging along the course and clearly defined waste zones at start and finish.
Leave-no-trace course marking
We use reusable markings and remove everything completely immediately after the event.
No infrastructure in the forest
Food stations, tents, technology and meeting points remain in accessible areas – not deep inside the forest.
Compensate & reinvest
We offset unavoidable environmental impacts through targeted measures: CO₂ compensation, supporting local reforestation projects, nest-box initiatives, environmental education programmes and support for trail maintenance in the Black Forest.
Respect for people & nature
Hikers, cyclists, forestry and hunting activities have priority. We run responsibly and respectfully.
Code of conduct for everyone
The nature code is a mandatory part of the participation rules. Only those who accept it may start at the Freiburg TrailRun.
